‘Twas the Night before Disney

Written by Michelle

‘Twas the day before Disney and all through the house
All the parents were thrilled at the thought of The Mouse.
The clothing was stowed in the cases with care
in hopes that three children would soon find them there.

The children were clueless and went on with their days,
as visions of homework played out in their brains.
And Daddy at his workplace and Mami at home
had long planned the surprise, and their Disney World tone.

From books to spare clothes and tylenol to headphones,
Nothing else could fit: not crown or play clothes.
The websites were read, and the tickets were printed
The fast pass, the bands: magically encrypted.

When from our upstairs there arose such a clatter
I sprung from my desk to see what was the matter.
Away from my Facebook (*gasp*) I flew like a flash
I tore open the door to find what had smashed.

I raced into the spare room, this is what I found
Costumes, hair diffusers, root pumps on the ground.
One too many items were forced in our cases
Something must go. Can we still cover our bases?

With a little pep talk, some patience and good pace
I organized and weighed all the stuff in my case.
Still in my stomach, jitters were on the attack.
Our kids still didn’t know. How would they react?

My husband the optimist, and jolly ‘ol self
laughed when he thought the kids would be besides themselves.
A wink of his eye and a nudge to my head
he kept reminding me we had nothing to dread.

I laughed when I thought of it in spite of myself.
We kept this a secret from the kids–by ourselves?
We spoke not a word, to anyone we knew
It would be something special–from us to our goofs

Oh Liam! Oh Alej! Oh Izzy and Grandparents!
Soon we’ll be off to the Glass Castle Palace.
Now dash away! Dash away! Now dash away ALL!
Tomorrow we leave for our very own ball.

And laying my hand on my heart just to calm it
it’s a matter of time before we announce it.
Will I spring to my feet or die of sweet laughter?
Their reactions will seal my Happily Ever After.
